Bromley School Catchment Areas

The London Borough of Bromley has 120 state schools – 76 primary and 19 secondary – spread across 9 areas from Bromley town and Beckenham in the north to Biggin Hill and Chelsfield in the south. The borough retains eight selective grammar schools, one of the highest concentrations of grammars in any London borough, and 90 of its schools hold academy status.

Demand is high: 30 of the 114 schools with published capacity data are currently at or above their admission number. The grammar schools attract applicants from across Bromley and neighbouring boroughs, with eligibility determined by the selective assessment administered each September. Twenty-three schools apply faith criteria alongside distance in their oversubscription policies. Of the schools with a current Ofsted inspection, 40 are rated Good or Outstanding.

Catchment boundaries for Bromley's community schools are published by the council each autumn. Grammar school applicants must register for the Bromley and Bexley selective process by the council's stated deadline. Because Bromley borders Kent – one of England's most extensive selective systems – families in the south of the borough may also consider Kent grammar schools in their applications.
