Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole School Catchment Areas

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council is a unitary authority formed in 2019 from three former councils, covering 117 state schools – 66 primary and 21 secondary – across six areas on the Dorset and Hampshire coast. The academy sector dominates: 80 of 117 schools hold academy status. The authority retains five selective schools, attracting applicants from across BCP and the surrounding area.

Demand is moderate but uneven: 22 of the 110 schools with published capacity figures are currently at or above their admission number. Selective schools in particular are heavily subscribed, with eligibility determined by entrance tests administered in the autumn term. Thirty schools apply faith criteria in their oversubscription policies. Of the schools with a current Ofsted inspection, 38 are rated Good or Outstanding.

Catchment boundaries across BCP are published annually by the council and reviewed ahead of each admissions cycle. Because the authority was formed relatively recently, admissions policies may vary between schools that were previously under different councils. Families near the council boundaries with Dorset or Hampshire should also check eligibility for schools in those neighbouring authorities.
